Snapshot Summary, June 29-July 5

This week was a slow week for us as we all came down with bad head colds and just didn't feel like doing much. We did have some fun this week, however.
The boys learned how they fired rifles and cannons at the
18th Century Independence Celebration and Muster
Sycamore Shoals, Elizabethton, TN
We had a beautiful Independence Day. We grilled all sorts of things for lunch and made Italian Cream Sodas in the afternoon. We picked up a bucket of KFC fried chicken and the fixin's and had a picnic dinner in Kingsport, where we watched the fireworks display. Kingsport closes off its main street for the festivities. The boys played with bubble guns while we waited for it to get dark and once twilight came, Steven blew up light-up balloons that Katie had bought for them. The evening ended with a lovely fireworks display.

We explored the concepts of tints and shades this week.
Quentin's, age 8
They mixed white with the blue and painted inside the circle, each ring gets progressively lighter until they got to the center. Next they added black to the blue and painted rings on the outside of the circle, each ring getting darker until they hit the outside.

Alex's, age 17
We will be turning these into deep blue ocean scenes. I will show you in our Jellyfish post, which is coming soon.

And, as a snack we tinted banana pudding in varying degrees.
We also tried some new recipes this week: Fish Tacos and Slow Cooker Pepper Steak.
