| Snapshot Summary, June 15-22 |
We played lots of games...
practiced spelling words with Hangman, practiced equivalent fractions with fraction cards War.
We bought a Venus Fly Trap and enjoyed feeding it a fly we had swatted.
We went to a little local carnival and the little boys enjoyed riding rides with their big sister. Alex rode the carousel and slid down the big slide and loved them.
We also spent one whole day at Warriors' Path State Park in Kingsport, TN.
It is an incredible place with a "Boundless Playground" which means it is tailored to appeal to Special Needs kids.
All of my kids had a good time, from my 20-year old, who loved the herb and native plants gardens and the stream that just calls for people to take off their shoes and socks and enter it,
down to my 8-year old, who loved the series of Narnia play spaces.
Alex absolutely loved it, which was amazing because typically he gets either over-stimulated or bored at playgrounds. There also is a pool there for a nominal fee ($4 per person). We went back and forth from the playground to the pool all day. There was also paddle-boats to rent and Frisbee golf there, but we saved those for future days.
It was a wonderful, magical day.
We also learned about tracking animals like the frontiersmen did.
There is a lot to learn about Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett in Tennessee and Kentucky.
We have been experimenting with spinning wool with a drop spindle.
As an introduction to our study of habitats, we took a close look at soil from the backyard.
We talked about food chains and ecosystems and they drew one. We made a soil profile...
and had a soil layers treat.
We did a lot of backyard swimming, a lot of reading...
and, as always, lots of pretend play.
