Snapshot Summary, June 6-11
Monday 6 We began our study of the Pilgrims and the Iroquois and other woodland tribes. Sam took a math test.
Tuesday 7 I made easy homemade donuts for breakfast. We studied Bruegel's The Corn Harvest and then we made our own fall pictures with chalk pastels. We also studied the Iroquois tribes. We had Sun-Dried Tomato & Basil Goat Cheese Spread and Corn, Tomato and Basil Salad.
Wednesday 8 We looked at New York state and made a geography album page. The boys also enjoyed an Indian-Pilgrim trading game...
and then we beat the heat with a garden hose-trampoline game, which was something on our summer fun list.
Thursday 9 We made a breakfast casserole. We colored pasta to make Wampum and assigned amounts to the different colors and sizes of beads so that they could count, add and subtract by 2's and 5's. Using the same cards we had used earlier in the week for trading, we set up a store so that Pilgrims and Indians could use the Wampum as money to buy needed items.
We also wove some of the pasta Wampum into small Wampum belts.
The kids had fun again spraying each other with the hose while Steven and I completed an errands run.
Friday 10 We completed a page on New York for our Geography-Postcard album and made Apple Muffins, the official muffin of New York.
We also completed some experiments with pennies to explain why the Statue of Liberty is greenish-blue.
Our turtle reappeared for a visit.
We used water balloons this time to keep our cool, crossing off another item off our summer fun list. We had Pepperoncini Beef Sandwiches for dinner.
