Math Monday
This morning Quentin made a quivers all by himself for Robin Hood's troop to hold plastic toothpick arrows.
We played Tapatan, a Phillippine game, which led to tic-tac-toe.
James and Steven went to the dentist and James got new blue and red braces and some head gear.
We reviewed Roman numerals and completed word problems, addition problems with signed numbers, and addition with carrying.
The boys played outside for it was a beautiful day. They explored critters in the backyard, climbed trees, and of course, played with sticks.
Katie and Alex planted some seedlings in their garden.
We ate a dinner of hamburgers and corn on the cob in honor of our study of Nebraska. |

Tuesday
First thing, the little boys and I made stamps and let them dry, while Sam worked on some sketches and Alex made a postcard-geography album page on Nebraska. Then inspired by a Durer painting, I introduced James to the Magic Square.
He added numbers in his head in all sorts of combinations. Then we worked on making our own.
In our Galleon/Privateer game, Katie and James were still in the lead, but Sam has had some good sailing and has caught up a lot of lost ground -or water, I should say. With the two Privateers in the back, they might catch the Galleons and we expected to see some battles the next time we played.
After lunch, while Sam finished his Latin grammar, the little boys made prints with the stamps and beautiful irradescent dragonflies began to appear-with stripes, and glitter and veins in their wings.
Steven made Chinese Curry for dinner.

Wednesday
We studied the Habsburg Empire starting with Charles V of Spain, and the rise of Prussia. The little boys loved making up their own games using the Axis and Allies game. They also made paper pizzas with all sorts of toppings.

And in our Privateers/Galleon game, it looks as if James (red) and Katie (white) might make it back to Spain with their load of gold! Alex,(green) however, has a Privateer (Quentin-blue and Sam-yellow) in front and in back of him! |

Thursday
After reading and writing in the morning, we had ribbon sandwiches for lunch, with layers of egg salad, cream cheese with black olives, and pimento spread. Then we met friends at the bowling alley, for bowling of course, and snacking and socializing. Steven made Chinese Meatballs in Sweet and Sour Sauce for dinner.

Friday
Sam woke up not feeling well today so the rest of the boys learned about inside the egg. They made flat, layered models of the egg and used printed out labels to label the parts. We also cracked a real egg and looked at the parts.
We are working on the development of a chick booklets. |
