Getting The Tree Up
6
Monday
After a breakfast that Saint Nicholas brought them they began decorating the tree.
The Advent calendar's window was opened to reveal our Christmas activity of the day which was Letters to Santa.
We completed math activities and then Quentin made a tiny tree from a bit of the pine boughs. He also made a little table out of the wood cookie cut from the bottom of the Christmas tree and some pieces of branches. He put it together and Steven helped him hot glue it.
Then he found Steven's minature Bible ornament and thought it was perfect for it.
I had planned to make these cupcakes this evening, but instead we decorated the tree. Katie is sick and so did not help us.Quentin arranged the Nutcrackers and Santas under the tree.
And then they are gathered watching The Nutcracker on Roku

Tuesday
The first activity of the day was to open the Advent calendar to find out the Christmas activitiy but first, before we baked, we looked at Da Vinci's Annunciation. We measured each other and compared our measurements against Da Vinci's observations of the human figure. While the little boys were worked on their picture study, Sam worked on his drawing. Then Quinny began to make sketches of his own. While Sam worked on his Christmas wish list, James helped me make cinnamon cookies, in keeping with our cinnamon theme this week. Crystal snowflakes went on the Christmas tree. For teatime we had cinnamon hot cocoa. and the cinnamon cookies, which were like soft snicker-doodles. After dinner Steven rolled out the Stained Glass Cookie dough I had made earlier. The boys added the hard candies they had crushed earlier.
Merry Christmas!

Cinnamon Dough Ornaments

Thursday
The day started with the boys painting the cinnamon scented salt dough ornaments
while the cinnamon-applesauce ornaments dry by the fire.
I started the pumpkin-butternut squash soup
and pumpkin biscuits that were to be served at dinner.
Then I helped Alex make a page in our postcard-geography album on New Hampshire.
James played on the computer,
which has been temporarily moved to the kitchen to make room in the family room for the Christmas tree. The pumpkin biscuits were then ready to take out of the oven.
Then the boys got started on their Tibetan palace doors, so that we could finish our unit on Tibet.
Meanwhile I helped Katie make cinnamon-spiced almonds.
Once the nuts had finished baking, and while they cooled a bit, I rolled up paper cones to put them in.
By this time the soup was almost ready.
Few more finishing touches and dinner was on the table.
Christmas movies and bedtime stories for the youngers.
Games by the fire for the olders.
