| 31 and 1 Friday and Saturday seventh and eighth days of Christmas Hoping not to sound too overly superstitious, but I also hope that our having dreadfully awful colds on these days does not hold a ill omen for the new year. We were all too sick to care about celebrating, so I did not get to the ideas I had for celebrating. Perhaps next year. We did have our black-eyed peas and rice for New Year's Day, however. We opened our fortune walnuts. "Eat poor that day, eat rich the rest of the year. Rice for riches and peas for peace." - Southern saying on eating a dish of Hoppin' John on New Year's Day. |
