 Snapshot Summary September 20-25 (Week 3}

Monday: Our mostly math day featured hands-on geometry with square play. We played with them as a group, and each took away from it at their own level, whether it was mathematical patterns, addition, multiplication, squaring numbers or square roots. James and Quentin also worked on word math problems and Sam worked on dividing fractions.

Tuesday: We discussed the influence of the Church in the Middle Ages, and then made chimera (gargoyle) statues, Illuminated letters and all sorts stained glass projects.
Wednesday: In the morning, we learned about Finland and made a scrapbook page with our postcards from Finland. We made Cinnamon buns with (1 tsp.) cardamom like the Finnish,but we took them to the park to eat where we could celebrate the last day of summer and the coming of autumn that evening. For our nature study, we looked for signs of fall, and in general enjoyed the very warm weather.
Thursday: We studied another print from the Limbourg brothers, and we made more pastel pictures; beach scenes this time. Katie went to the beach to get smooth stones for a project for the boys.

Friday: Today the little boys played with bear counters. Katie helped them make story stones with the stones she had collected yesterday.We worked on some "stained glass" projects. We read about the characteristics of acids and bases and then we experimented with acid and bases and neutralizing pH. The little boys climbed trees. We read about Mushrooms. We had root beer floats (in the 90 degree heat) and Katie made Shepard's Pies for dinner.

Saturday: Errand running day. We did take the boys to Friendly's for dinner (as we had no food in the house until after we went grocery shopping!) They had fun making their sundaes.
