Snapshot Summary: August 20-27, 2010: Camp Bergenholtz, week one

Friday: Our famly camp started as soon as Steven got off work Friday night. We tied up our shirts and dyed them yellow. We made 'smores in the backyard.

Saturday: After homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast, we tied up our shirts again for the red dye bath. For the first time all summer, the whole family got into the pool. It is funny how we never seem to take the time to do simple things like that until camp. We made a beautiful windsock the same colors as our t-shirts out of a can. We played with sidewalk paint and at tea time had cupcakes in yellow and orange. We made a buzzing toy and ate chocolate pecan pie.

Sunday: We had homemade Egg McMuffins for breakfast and then after church, we did various crafts. We had planned to go blueberry picking but it rained. We made homemade stickersdream catchers and gummy candy. We played board games and had an ice cream sundae bar.

Monday: We spent the day at Killen's Pond Water Park. I packed them a water themed bento lunch with fished shaped sandwiches, goldfish crackers and Nemo fruit snacks. When we got home we had a movie night and watched Ponyo and ate popcorn. I know it is an old movie, but we just had never got around to watching it.

Tuesday: Remember that blueberry picking we had planned on Sunday? Well, we went on Tuesday, and we ended up picking apples as well since the blueberries were all but gone. We enjoyed a Cookie bake in which each person got a small bowl of cookie dough and each person was able to add to their dough whatever they wanted from cocoa to make them chocolate cookies to nuts and chips. We also enjoyed fresh blueberry cobbler.

Wednesday: We rented a cabin at Tuckahoe State Park. They have a wonderful playground made from recycled tires. We had lunch under the tall pines. The kids played disc golf and then four of us went canoeing and saw turtles and a beaver dam. We cooked hot dogs on a stick over a campfire. The boys went to another playground and then came back to make 'smores. A few games at the cabin and then storytime before bed.

Thursday: We drove on to Ocean City, which has beach with lots of play equipment such as wooden planes and castles. We split up at lunch to two places right next to each other. We enjoyed playing in the sand, watching the gulls and
the sand display
and playing in the waves. The waves were hitting hard, but it wasn't until we were home again I found out that a hurricane was approaching. The boys enjoyed the amusement rides and Katie, Steven and Alex rode the big ferris wheel.

Friday: We made coffee can stilts, a giant bubble wand and bike riding. In the hot afternoon we played all sorts of water games including making a sponge ball comet and ate ice cream sandwiches. We had a shish kabob bar and grilled at the dining room table.
